Only after First Sangha Council, Dhamma categorized into Sutta and Abhidhamma. Therefore, argument of only compare with Sutta, but not Abhidhamma does not really make sense. It is just a thought. However, if you studied enough of Buddha literature, you should become realized that it is about cultivation. One should cultivate to attain freedom (freedom from suffering). And if you see that way, you will start asking differently. Rather than asking if this is historically maintained correctly, you will start asking if one practice, it will bring benefit to the person and will be freed from suffering. You will try to cultivate your mind to see the nature of yourself. You will try to see it yourself instead of thinking about what it should be. If Buddha's 4 noble truth are really true, there is no way for you to miss it. (Note: even from the logical point of view, Buddha's 4 noble truth is very difficult to argue. So, only fool will attempt to counter argue with it. No one will need to argue with this fool because old age, pain and death will arrive to him soon anyway.) All you need to do is understand the suffering. If you really understand the suffering, you will be able to understand the rest.
